A few years ago, I selected Colten Adult Care to care for my aunt Lois. I did this for several reasons:
1.) I had known Pete and Jana for a number of years and we had become friends. I knew them to be the kind of people who cared for the residents in their care homes, in a personal way, beyond simply a business arrangement.
2.) Their homes where always well maintained and the setting was an intimate family style arrangement, unlike larger facilities I had visited on many occasions.
3.) the location was near my home, making my visits very convenient. My aunt was 90 years old, but took few medications and retained her mental acuity, so what I really needed was a caring environment in which the staff actually cared for my aunt's daily needs and wishes. This is what I received. One example illustrates the point. Early one morning I received a call that my aunt was not feeling well. I walked to the care home (two doors from my home), and found my aunt, laying in bed with a fever, and one of the staff laying beside her, holding her and comforting her. Aspirin had been taken, the only thing to do was to comfort her, and to keep a close eye on her condition which passed in a few hours.
My aunt's stay lasted about three years before congestive heart failure resulted in a hospital stay, followed by hospice. I believe she was well cared for during this entire time. The end is not fun or easy, all we can do is provide care and comfort for our loved ones. I am glad I chose Colten Adult Care, and I will again if the need arises.
