My name is Jana Colten.  I am a Clinical Social Worker, and have worked with senior citizens in hospitals, nursing homes and home settings for the last twenty five years. 

In 1997 I was working for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, providing in-home social services to the elderly.   I was seeing a lot of patients in adult care homes, and to be honest, wasn’t overly impressed with the level of care these people were receiving.   The assisted living home concept was great, but there just never seemed to be any life to these places; just a lot of residents sitting around staring at the walls.  My grandparents were all in nursing homes and I always left a visit with them feeling sad & depressed.   I thought I could make a difference, so in Spring 1998, my husband Peter and I opened our first assisted living home. 

Our philosophy is simple:  in every decision we make and every action we take, what is best for our residents is always our primary consideration.  Our vision is to create places full of life and laughter, places where our residents feel happy & loved and where our residents’ families have peace of mind knowing their loved one is safe & well cared for.  

We continually strive to improve our residents’ quality of care and quality of life.  We believe in a person’s right to dignity and choice, so our residents have significant input into our menus, and our activity programs focus the specific needs and wishes of our current residents.  

We celebrate everyone’s birthday and all the holidays.  We encourage decorating resident’s rooms with their favorite colors and furniture, artwork and pictures of the people that matter most in their lives.  And we want everyone to come and visit whenever and as often as you can.  In other words, we want our families to feel like they’re at home in our home.
